SXSW Wrap Up

I'm now back in Chicago after a tremendous time in Austin. I thought I'd run down each day and talk about what I did and what I saw, before I forget...

Music Is Fun

I was out all day yesterday, wandering around austin, walking near creeks, seeing people playing frisbee golf (for real, with, like, little shoulder bags for different-weight frisbees), and then finally getting around to seeing some bands play. It's safe to say that SXSW is not a morning event, but that's good because the morning in Austin was cool and calm and very enjoyable.

SXSW

It's as official as it's going to get: I will be traveling down to Austin, Texas with my band Absinthe & The Dirty Floors to play a show during South By Southwest, a fairly massive media extravaganza. I've never been to Texas. At least, I don't think I have.

The Calm of the Niger River

While purchasing our tickets in Mopti for the boat to Timbuktu, Saly and I have the pleasure of meeting the captain, who invites us into his quarters, shows us around a little, and even gives us a fried treat with banana sauce. He takes kindly to Saly and from then on we are greeted very warmly by him and his crew who now know us by name.

Heading Back

Well, it's been a nice 2.5 days in the Cincinnati area. Got to see some people, meet some people, and eat some... food!

Did you think I was going to say eat some people? That's silly... I would never say that.

Cincinnati Was Once Losantiville, And So On...

But that's nobody's business but the Ohioans. I'll be there this weekend, searching for treasure, listening to music in corporate coffee shops, and punching a certain Pete Akins square in the jaw.

Chile y Perú: Ilustrados

Some photos to end your week with. These were shot during the recent trip to Chile and Peru that I wrote about.

En Chile, Vino. En Perú, Pisco.

It's 32 degrees Celsius, but soon to be 8. But for now, 32, and I am backpacking through Brooklyn. Dirty, grimy. I'm not necessarily ready, but I never am. With the rucksack, I am suddenly an outsider on the subway, not just going to work or going home, but leaving.
